Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of personalities, and a exciting storyline showcasing angels, fiends, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of this adventure are included.
The Soldiers Table Unveiled
The latest chapter ended with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of characters who will separate from the primary party to embark on their own adventure, apart from the remaining groups.
The combat-focused team includes Teor (brought to life by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was clear from the beginning that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.
That’s why, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before splitting into three smaller tables: Fighters, Schemers, and Explorers.
The Nature of the Warrior Group
Per the DM, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are few and far between.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might look unsuited, but the actions of episode 3 show why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Reasons to Leave
To begin with, the group understands precisely where to go next after a violent opening clash with the antagonists.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—exploited the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, striking the character, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.
The traitor then cleared his obligations and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, above Dol-Makjar, with Cyd pursuing him.
Individual Reasons
Moreover, each character has a specific drive to depart the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks vengeance.
- The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a hostile environment.
- The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the fighter and instead saved him, have no safe haven.
- However, their reputation as key figures in House Halovar could help the party enter locations they usually can’t.
- Additionally, The fighter vowed a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are hunted by the authorities that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:
- The rogue and Kattigan are notorious outlaws.
- The strong figure and The healer betrayed the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are allied with.
- Teor is wanted dead by House Halovar.
This leaves them little choice but to travel to the remote area in search of the traitor.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight participants to round up the Explorers and Planners tables.
Audiences can expect finding out which characters will be assigned to which table in the season’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on October 24.
